Programs and Services

HMI has grown from a small grass-roots advocacy organization, run by volunteers, to a professional Institute, which serves thousands of  youth each year with a broad range of vital services. HMI's youth members, ranging in age from 12 to 21, come from 172 zip codes throughout the five boroughs of New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area.

The Institute's youth service programs are designed to provide a comprehensive continuum of care for young people and their families. Youth services are provided in a non-judgmental manner and are designed to build on a young person's capacity so they can return to the community of their choice. Staff members work closely with young people to custom design a service plan that will successfully carry them from intake to discharge. HMI's goal is to provide each young person with the knowledge and the skills to move safely through adolescence and to achieve success in the larger world. HMI's multi-service program models are available to local, state, and federal agencies. The Institute's consultation services are provided both nationally and internationally.

By working with educators, child-welfare professionals, government officials, and other youth service and medical providers, The Hetrick-Martin Institute works daily to make the world a safer, more nurturing place for all youth.
